YURI

Yuri was born and raised in Venezuela; due to the political and economic strife in her country, Yuri had to leave her family in Venezuela to come to America as a single mom with her son.

Yuri is dedicated to her jewelry project: she teaches a group of immigrant women how to make jewelry and then sells it in different places in Colorado. Her work is centered around jewelry, however the focus is on the women she teaches. So often, we forget the stresses women face in everyday life (especially during Covid) and Yuri’s class is a way to give them a little bit of a break from that. All the jewelry made is hypoallergenic and high quality.

“Part of my project is not just to sell jewelry, it’s also how my students feel. For them, this is therapy, this is the best day of the week, we have fun, and they can forget about their families, and they can just do what they want, and not think about cooking, cleaning, husbands, kids; they are just making jewelry and having their time, and making a little money from that too. It’s time that a group of women can enjoy together.”
