MOUSA

Mousapotamia

Originally from Baghdad, Iraq, Mousa came to America with his wife and two children in 2017 with a special immigrant visa. The main challenge for Mousa and his wife in coming to America was starting over. After spending their entire lives in Iraq building their home, they had to start from scratch. Despite this, Mousa has become an important member of the community in Denver. When he isn't being an amazing father or husband, he's creating art. His favorite mediums tend to be glass, which he etches, or wood, which he laser burns, though he also paints on them. All of his art reflects his culture. On glass, he creates the hand of Hamsa, which in Iraq is the equivalent of the horseshoe in America, protecting people from evil and bad luck. On wood, he carves doors modeled after the doors in the old city of Baghdad.

“I like to tell people about these doors and how these houses were very beautiful, and how beautiful these houses used to be.”
